Sarah Chaisson Warner is the Founder and Editor in Chief
of Athena Magazine for Girls. Sarah received her B.A. in
political science from Barnard College, and her Master of
Public Policy from Harvard University.

Among Sarah's favorite things are playing sports, chocolate
chunk brownies with mint frozen yogurt, debating with
friends about current events, travelling to warm, sunny
places, playing with her three dogs - Charlotte, Hewey, and
Oliver, and writing.

An award-winning screenwriter, Sarah channeled her
passion for the written word and women's issues to create
this magazine for all young women looking to inspire and
be inspired.

Stephanie Bolmer is a senior English major at Oberlin
College.  She is passionate about poetry, education, and
Harry Potter.  She grew up in Easton, Pennsylvania and
misses her 14-year-old sister back home.  For fun, she likes
to read the Oxford English Dictionary, contra dance, play
board games, or just go to a diner with her friends.

Sarah Cushing is the Senior Editor for Features. She
graduated from Keene State College in 2007, where she
received a B.A. in psychology.  While at Keene State she
examined her passion for social issues through her studies
in psychology and writing.  Sarah’s passion for social causes
has translated itself into volunteerism and activism in the
world around her.  She has participated in half-marathons
and marathons raising funds for The Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society as well as the Amyotrophic Lateral
Sclerosis Association of Northern New England.

Sarah is an active and long-time volunteer with a crisis and
suicide hotline in her community and enjoys volunteering
at Camp Sunshine in Maine, a camp for children with life-
threatening illnesses and their families.  Sarah is currently
working, volunteering and writing before beginning
graduate school in 2008.

Stephanie Jelenic Deb is the Senior Editor for
Environment/Current Events/Fashion. She is originally
from Cleveland, Ohio, and is currently a junior at Loyola
University Chicago double majoring in Journalism and
English.  She enjoys writing, reading, traveling, and
fashion. She has a deep and sincere concern for global
warming and other environmental issues.

Stephanie loves watching documentaries; she would choose
a documentary over a movie any day! She is also currently
in the process of writing her own novel, hopefully one of
many.

Deepti Dhir is a sophomore at Mount Holyoke College
studying french and economics. She is originally from
India, but spent many years growing up in Dubai and
Singapore. She studied at international schools and met
people from many different backgrounds.

She is dedicated to modern dance, and looks forward to

learning and speaking different languages, and is currently
fluent in Arabic, English and Spanish - and she's in her
third year of Hebrew! Mai also loves participating in school
events and student governments as well as having lots and
lots of debates on issues that are important to our lives as
young women in the 21st century. Add to that some yoga
and power walking, and that pretty much sums Mai up!

Caitlin Emmons is a senior at Claremont High School in
Southern California. She hopes to be a journalism or
environmental policy major once she enters college. She is
very involved in the speech and debate team at Claremont.
In her free time she loves getting coffee with friends,
movie nights, and just laying on the grass soaking up the
California sun.

Jenny Heath is a graduate student at Keene State College,
finishing her M.Ed. in School Counseling. She received
her    B.S. from Lesley College. Her dream is to be a
bilingual middle school counselor in a part of the country
where there are four seasons (winter not extending six
months).  She enjoys singing along to Universo Latino in
the car (especially at stop lights) and watching people in
other cars read her feminist bumper stickers.

She hopes that girls all over the world find strength
through their spirit and let it flow through their voices.

Emily Long is the Senior Editor for Monthly Columns. She
is originally from Savannah, GA, and is currently a junior
at Duke University, where she is working towards a degree
in International Comparative Studies and Russian. She will
be spending Spring 2008 living with a Russian family,
studying at St. Petersburg State University, and fighting the
extreme cold.

Emily enjoys running, photography, cooking, and
traveling. In an ideal world, she would find a career that
allows her to run, cook, and take beautiful pictures around
the globe. While she waits for such an opportunity, she
coaches for Girls on the Run, a self-esteem building after-
school running program for young girls, runs marathons,
and works on getting the most out of her short four years at
Duke.

Deborah Murad holds a BA degree in Economics from
Barnard College and a JD from  Cardozo School of Law.  She
is a proud member of the NY and NJ bars.  When not

music extensively thoughout her life both privately and at
Manhattan School of Music.  She is the mother of a one
year old boy, Michael.

Nicola Pioppi is in Super Senior mode at the University of
Pittsburgh.  She is majoring in English Writing, minoring
in Linguistics, and can effectively if not efficiently
communicate in Spanish.  In addition to writing, her
passions include books, libraries, twenty-minute meals
(take that Rachel Ray!), staircases (her favorite
architectural feature), scarves, and sweaters.

Nicola is filling her summer working at the lending desk of
University's main library, moonlighting at Starbucks, and
volunteering at the Carnegie Public Library, and although
she loves them all dearly, hopes to eventually trade these in
for a swanky publishing gig in New York City.

Laura Tarbell has been a Personal Fitness Trainer for
nearly five years. She is certified with the American College
of Sports Medicine, the largest sports medicine and exercise
organization in the world.

Laura graduated from the University of New Hampshire

education and wilderness therapy, where she worked with
teenagers and adults on leadership, cooperation, self-
esteem, and wilderness survival skills.

English and minoring in Art History. She absolutely loves
New York City and hopes to continue living there after

her friends and exploring the city. She looks forward to
writing for Athena Magazine, hoping to encourage girls
everywhere to recognize their self worth, strengths and
ambitions.

Anna Ziering just finished her first year at Barnard College,
where she plans to major in English, concentrate in
Creative Writing, and minor in Women’s Studies. She loves
theater and has taken full advantage of living on Broadway.
After an exciting year in New York, she is glad to be
spending the summer at home with her family and high
school friends.

Anna enjoys reading, writing, singing, and lounging around
with friends. She hopes to be a director, a published poet, a
teacher, a feminist and gender theorist, a singer, and
numerous other things. She wants to spend her life
learning something new every day.
