You Have a Super Power! Do You Know What it Is?

By: Stephanie Bolmer

Do you feel extra safe this summer? If you do, it’s not surprising. We
seem to have extra protection around us this year. With Iron Man, Indy,
Batman, and the Incredible Hulk zooming around, it would be totally
natural for you to start to feel a little super yourself. Here are a few
questions to help you determine what hidden superpowers are lurking
beneath the surface, waiting to be discovered in you!

1.        When a friend is down, what do you do for her?
a.        Make her get out of the house and forget about her worries
b         Don’t say anything, but leave some fresh-baked chocolate-chip
        cookies in her locker
c.        Sit her down, talk it out, and make a plan for moving on
d.        Go to her with a big hug and let her cry it out on your shoulder
e.        Show up at her house in a wacky costume with her favorite board
        game under your arm

2.        The actress who plays you in your biopic will have to…
a        Have amazing chemistry with all the other actors
b.        Take on another role in the film, too, like producing or directing
c.        Be able to take any criticism you may have for her so as to make
        her portrayal totally true-to-life
d.        Let just how much fun she is having shine through in her
        performance
e.        Do the movie for nothing or donate her salary to your favorite
        charity

3.        Where are you most likely to volunteer after school?
a.        Stocking up the local food pantry
b.        Taking flowers to your friends at the nursing home
c.        Visiting sick kids in the children’s hospital
d.        Canvassing and campaigning for your candidate or charity of choice
e.        Hanging out and tutoring your Little Sister at the Boys and Girls
        Club

4.        You’re at your family’s annual picnic this summer, and the hot
dogs have been eaten. Where are you now?
a.        You’re trying to organize two even teams for a game of volleyball
b.        You’re splashing your younger cousins in the sprinklers
c.        You’re having a serious talk with your uncle about the future of the
        family business
d.        You’re listening to your Aunt Lola’s story about how her cat ran up
         a tree last week
e.        You’re washing dishes—and watching your cousin’s new baby as she
naps in her playpen at the same time

5.        If you were out with friends on Saturday night, trying to get
everybody home before curfew and suddenly the car broke down, what
would you do?
a.        I’d crack a joke about it to make everyone laugh and relieve the
        tension
b.        I’d quietly get out my cell phone and call my mom, asking her to let
other moms know we’ll be a little late, too
c.        I’d pop open the hood and start tinkering to see what I could do
d.        I’d call AAA immediately
e.        I’d put my arm around my friend who started crying and assure her
        she won’t be grounded

Here’s the code. Now line up the number with the letter you chose. Count
up how many of each number you got. (For example, if you got 3 5’s, 2 4’
s, and a 2, you would read the description for #5—and maybe #4, too!)
1.        a = 1, b = 3, c = 2, d = 4, e = 5
2.        a = 4, b = 2, c = 1, d = 5, e = 3
3.        a = 3, b = 5, c = 4, d = 2, e = 1
4.        a = 2, b = 5, c = 1, d = 4, e = 3
5.        a = 5, b = 3, c = 1, d = 2, e = 4

If you got mostly…

1’s – You are Super Strong! You take things in stride and you bounce back
quickly from disappointments or shocks. You’re probably good at keeping
your head in an emergency, and that is always a valuable thing. People
look to you to be a rock in times of trouble. Just remember that it’s okay
to be vulnerable or even weak sometimes, too. We all are!

2’s – You have Telekinesis! That means you can move things with your
mind! And, you do! You probably jump in and take initiative in most
situations, and that’s great, because the world needs good leaders. You are
a mover and a shaker, and you make things happen. Just don’t let it all
your good ideas give you a big head.

3’s – You can make yourself Invisible! You thrive when you are helping
out behind the scenes. You probably don’t like being in the spotlight, and
that’s okay—as long as you remember that it’s okay to get some
recognition now and then. But, you’re a real do-gooder, always making
sure things are taken care of from the sidelines. Thanks for looking out
for the rest of us! Make sure you’re taking care of you, too!

4’s – You have X-Ray Vision! You are totally intuitive and know what
others need without even asking. You’re also super compassionate and go
out of your way to make others feel important and involved. It’s so good
to have good listeners and sweet friends like you to lean on. Don’t forget
to open up and share your feelings, too!

5’s – You have the power of Flight! You are super cheerful and make
others around you happy just by being you! You probably love having fun
anytime, anywhere, and know that laughter really is the best medicine. It’
s great that you keep a smile on your face and everyone else’s, too, but
don’t be afraid that you’ll let others down if you don’t. Even you can have
a bad day sometimes!
