                    Cool Summer Activities

By: Victoria Baughman

If you’re looking for some fun summer
activities, you can find them right in
your home town either free or low cost.
You can share these activities with your
friends and family and even meet new
people in the process!

No matter day or night there are many
fun summer activites you can enjoy. You
don’t have to spend a lot of money to
enjoy a day at the park. Most parks have
tennis and volleyball courts as well as
soccer and baseball fields. It doesn’t
matter how many people you’re with,
whether it’s a one-on-one game of tennis
or a group of people playing baseball. Get
a bunch of friends together and have a
cookout at your local park while enjoying
any of these sport activities.

On a hot summer day, you can cool off by taking a dip into a pool.
Swimming and laying out on the beach or by the pool with friends is
something you can do all day long. If it’s raining and you’re lucky enough
to have a community pool in your town, go for it! Other exercise activities
that would work up a good sweat include bike riding and walking. These
acitivites are beneficial to your health and relaxation. If you are stressed
out and overwhelmed, a good bike ride or walk can help you relive stress.

If you don’t like the sun or physical
activity but love the night scene, concerts
are for you.  Many towns hold local
concerts at town or city parks or recrea-
tional areas.  Kick back, have a cold
refreshing drink and mellow out to the
sounds of great music.

In the evening, festivals are a great way
to mingle, eat, and enjoy the fun of music
and activities such as rides and games.
Whether it’s throwing a dart at a balloon and getting a prize or the thrill of
spinning on a ride, you’re surrounded by festivities you can take pleasure
in.

Don’t forget about midnight bowling!  Don’t worry about getting strikes
and a high score—just try to have fun!

If you want to take up knitting, scrapbooking or cake decorating, arts and
crafts stores are the place to go!  The large national chain store Michael’s
hosts many classes on a variety of arts and crafts activities.  Classes are
open to all different ages and held on a regular basis.  Some of these
classes either charge a small fee or require participants to buy the
materials used in the class, but some classes are free of charge!

These are just a few of the fun and enjoyable summer activities you can
participate in.  Be creative with your summer activities—don’t just sit
around, get out there and have some fun!
