Movie Review: The Time Traveler's Wife

By: Tomi Afolayan

“I wouldn’t change one second of our life together.”  This quote was spoken
by Clare Abshire (Rachel McAdams) in The Time Traveler’s Wife; A
romantic drama about the life of Eric Bana (Henry DeTamble) a Chicago
Librarian with a gene disorder that forces him to unwillingly time travel
when he’s under intense pressure.  From the time when she was a young
girl when Eric first traveled and met her, Clare had loved Eric and believed
that they were meant to be together.

When Clare becomes an adult and chance brings them together she feels as
though she already knows him very well, but it takes some time for him to
discover  who she is. After spending a lot of time together he ends up falling
in love with her and asks her to marry him.  At first life is blissful and care
free for the couple until reality sets in when Eric disappears into time for a
long term.  Clare becomes so worried that when Eric finally returns she is
very angry with him.  At this point in the movie it seems as though their
marriage is doomed.  But because of their love for each other they decide to
embrace the time travel.  An ill-fated glance into the future also makes
them to cherish the time they do get to spend together.

If you are a hopeless romantic or just someone looking to enjoy a
compelling drama this movie is for you.  It kept me on the edge of my seat
the whole time and at times I found my eyes wet with tears.  This movie
illuminated true love, the kind that is unconditional, that is forgiving and
understanding.  Rachel  McAdams and Henry DeTamble did a wonderful job
of living up to their roles.  I could not have asked for a better duo.  The
music also played a very key part in the movie, which was to set the mood;
it helped me to get into the film.

It is also nice to see movies like this which are based on classic books on
the big screen.  The message that the movie gave was a very positive one.
Many have said the book is better than the movie, but the movie still lived
up to my expectations.  So I hope you enjoy it if you get a chance to see it!
