Getting a steady job can be exciting and seem
like a traditional venture as an adult.  However,
the high rates of unemployment and dismal
economy can be disheartening—but, don’t fret!
Let’s look at some career choices that will be
n demand in the future.  Maybe your dream
job is on this list after all.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics
(BLS), three out of ten new jobs created in the
United States economy will include either
healthcare or social assistance or public or
private education services.  Healthcare and
social assistance is expected to add 4 million
new jobs by 2016; these jobs include nursing
and rehabilitation.  Some possible college majors you could look into
involving this field include general nursing and rehabilitation/therapy.
Nursing tends to be relatively competitive so it would be a good idea to
declare this major once you are applying to a college.  Public and private
educational services will add 1.4 million new jobs by 2016.

Professional, scientific and technical services will add 2.1 million new jobs
by 2016.  A sample job in this field is Computer Software engineering
which is expected to experience the most growth.  In order to pursue this
career most employers are looking for a bachelor’s degree and people who
are well informed about different computer systems and technologies. As
you can see it is careers in the services sector that will be in most
demand.   Now that you know which jobs will be active here is some
advice from professionals about landing one of these jobs or any job,
these questions were asked for Fast Company a career magazine.

Carisa Bianchi is President of the Los Angeles branch of TBWA/Chiat/Day.
TBWA/Chiat/Day is an agency that is based all over the world in charge of
managing different types of companies.  Some of these companies
include, Adidas, Apple, Infinite, Nissan and McDonalds.  Carisa says the
way to make a good impression is to get the employers attention, be
innovative, and most importantly be passionate about what you want to
do.  She also believes that the best advice she has gotten regarding job
searching is to go after the idea and not the money; if you do this the
money will follow.  According to her, the best sector to look into is “green
technology,” because it is one of many careers that will be significant in
driving the economy.

Jeff Hicks, CEO of Crispin Porter + Bogusky believes that you should make
sure you stand out—don’t be another resume on the desk!  He once got a
letter from a prospective employee saying that they wanted to fight him;
he didn’t think that it was the best way to land a job, but it sure did get his
attention.

Lastly, a lot of the time downturn is an opportunity to build something
new, it forces you to focus and be resourceful flexible and rapidly
profitable.  So stay positive and focus on finding a career that matches
your interests and will be in demand.
