| Summer's Hot TV By: Lily Hechtle Summer is here and while everyone is out soaking up the sun, splashing in the pool, and surfing in the ocean there are times when some R&R (rest and relaxation) is necessary. As you are sitting inside in front of the T.V. nursing that sunburn covered in aloe, or during that typical summer rainstorm kick back the flip-flops and chill out. But then the inevitable happens: you channel surf and become bored seeing the rushing images go by at super speed, or you check your DVR listings only to realize you have watched everything recorded. Then what? Well here is a sneak-peak at some summer shows for all genres. For the food lover looking for some friendly competition and a host of characters tune into watch Bravo’s Tom Coliccio, Padama Lakshmi, Gail Simmons, and Eric Rupert for Top Chef Season 7 D.C. on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. This season is like any other, entertaining to watch and you may learn a few skills in the kitchen too, to impress family and friends. Want to tune in for a new drama that is sure to keep you at the edge of your seats in suspense? Look for Bourne Identity’s producer Doug Liman Covert Affairs starring Coyote Ugly’s Piper Perabo as the young and new CIA trainee who is thrusted into covert missions. The show is promised to bring a mysterious action packed twist to drama. Other accomplished cast members include: Peter Gallagher (O.C.), Christoher Goram (Ugly Betty), Anne Dudek (House, Big Love). It premieres on Tuesday, July 13th at 10 p.m. on USA. Time for some carefree laughs? Watch MTV’s new anticipated comedy, The Hard Times of RJ Berger, Mondays at 10 p.m. It features the awkward sophomore RJ whose gang of misfits battles the high school world trying to fit in but falling short and into embarrassment on numerous occasions. For instance, the wardrobe malfunction which changes his social status for life. For a mix of the light-hearted comedy yet drama, tune into ABC for their new summer hope-to-be- hit show, Scoundrels, Sunday at 10pm. It stars Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Virginia Madsen, who plays the mother of a family of small time criminals who try to commit their life into a straighter way of living once their father is sent to prison…obviously the latter does not favor their new lifestyle. Still at a loss for shows? When in doubt I always turn to the Travel Channel and Food Network, so check out those stations for the fan favorites like Ace of Cakes, Cake Boss, Man V. Food, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, and TLC for Toddlers and Tiaras (as a side note: I completely disagree with beauty pageants but watching the pageant mom and dads and their reaction to winning, losing, and their spoiled children is always entertaining). So curl up on the couch and grab that remote while the rain pounds down on the windows, or while your sunburn needs some time to cool off. School is out: TV is in. |
