Holly Fox - 18 - Fort Wayne, Indiana
Holly does everything! She will be a freshman at Indiana Tech this fall
where she will study Elementary Education. She has a passion for
children and tries to express her love for them as much as possible. She
volunteers much of her time at her church where she teaches Sunday
School, coaches a kid's open gym program, and teaches dance lessons.
She also works at Deb's Daycare and in the Parkview Field Kid's Zone.
Throughout high school, she has been involved in cheerleading and
speech team. In her spare time, she loves to dance, color, work with
children, watch Disney movies, and spend time with her friends and
family. She wants to be an elementary teacher when she graduates from
college.
Maria Peeples - 18 - Appleton, Wisconsin
Maria is a rising star in the world of politics. She will be studying
Political Science and Gender Studies next year at the University of San
Francisco. Over the last two years, she has worked for both
reproductive rights and LGBTQ rights. At the beginning of her junior
year, she travelled to Washington, DC to give a speech as a part of the
Youth Impact Project of the National Equality March, where she spoke
about depression and suicide among LGBTQ Youth. Shortly after, she
testified before a committee of my state Senate on a bill requiring
Wisconsin schools to only teach comprehensive sexual education. She
later became a member of Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s
Young Leaders Advisory Council and had the opportunity to work both
nationally and in state on issues of access to reproductive care.
Through lobbying legislators, writing editorials, reaching out to voters
and attending national conferences, she has learned the power that
young people can possess when channeling our collective voices.
Fiona Shea - 15 - Warner, NH
Fiona is multi-talented! Over the past six years, she has grown
pumpkins and baked pumpkin bread (selling them at our town’s
Farmers’ Market) to raise money for the local Conservation
Commission. Last year, the Commission recognized her work by naming
a pond after her! With her mom and grandmother, she has also helped
teach English to children at an orphanage in Guatemala. She is also a
musician, a writer and an actor. She and a friend are performing at
house concerts to buy a pump for the farm that grows the food for the
orphanage. For years, she has played fiddle in the “Dan Zanes and Local
Friends” band to raise money for the soup kitchen in Concord, NH. And
as though she's not busy enough, during the last presidential campaign,
she worked on President Obama’s campaign, basically living at the
campaign office, and went door-to-door every day with her mom, her
dad and friends.
