I'm preparing to take the S.A.T. soon. Do you have any tips to help me get a good score? ~ Tracy, 17, Dallas -------------------------------------- Hi Tracy! The best tip I could give you is to practice, practice, practice!! Use old tests, buy some preparation materials or sign up for an SAT preparation course. Take the time to increase your knowledge on the subjects tested and the test itself (i.e. types of questions, the directions). Now on to a few more tangible tips… Be careful when filling out your answer grid. Mark each of your answers clearly with a no. 2 pencil. Fill in the entire circle and make sure it is dark. Be careful that you have circled only one answer for each question and pay particular attention when skipping a question that you don't accidentally fill it in with the answer to another question. Be careful also to not leave any stray marks on the answer grid. Watch the clock . Limit the time you spend on any one question. Don't forget that all questions are worth the same points and it's not worth wasting time on a question that is stumping you. You can skip it and go back. (Talking about clocks…don't forget to bring a watch!) Guess when you can. Remember that you can skip questions—there is no deduction for that. But, where you can make an educated guess, you are probably better off guessing. (For some reason I always choose B, but that's just me!). Read the questions and answer choices carefully! It is a shame to get a question wrong solely because you didn't notice the word "not" or "never." Pack your bags—number two pencils, erasers, calculator, watch, layers of clothing, a snack for the break etc. etc. etc. Get lots of rest—There is no need to cram for this exam. Study steadily and get a good night's rest the night before test day Remember if you practice, practice, practice then you ARE prepared. When you wake up the morning of the test, have a nice big breakfast, leave early to the test center and relax! A confident and positive outlook will aid your performance!! Hope that helps! ~ Deborah |
