Dear Deborah,

My friends and I want to have a fun holiday party. Do you have any
ideas for cool stuff we can do at the party? We don't have a theme yet
either.

                            Dear Kim,

What a fun idea.  Here are some theme/party ideas
                             to consider…

(a) Traditional 'kids' party—Grab your best PJs and spend the day
baking cookies and decorating a gingerbread house. Rent classic
holiday movies and have plenty of blankets on hand for snuggling up
with a hot cocoa.

(b) Song theme party—Take a song title and run with it.  For example,
"Rocking Around the Christmas Tree" where everyone comes to the
party dressed up as a rock star.  Keep the theme alive by singing
Karaoke (or carols) into the night.

(d) Ugly Sweater Party—Everyone wears their tacky holiday sweater
complete with accessories.  Then have a vote on the "best" worst
dressed.  Spend a little time making holiday crafts and top it off with a
potluck dinner and a "secret" gift grab bag.

(e) Color Theme—Keep the outfits and food as close to the color
scheme as possible. For example, a black and white tea party where you
keep it elegant with tea, finger sandwiches and deserts (food coloring
can go a long way). For a quick game, have everyone bring a holiday
ornament or holiday card that best represents them, and put them all
in an unmarked bag.  Draw one at a time and see if you can match the
item to the person.

And, of course, add to any of these ideas a toy donation to an
organization like Toys for Tots, food donation to a local pantry,
community service activity, or even writing cards to children from
Santa…and you will be full of fun and meaning.

Happy Holidays….
