| Cold Weather Activities By: Shannon Southerland Baby it’s cold outside! If you’re looking for some fun and creative indoor activities to keep you busy this winter, AMG has a few suggestions. One delicious holiday craft you can do is build a gingerbread house. Although you can bake, cut and create your own gingerbread house, grocery and craft stores sell pre-built gingerbread kits complete with icing and decorations. Giant Eagle, Wal-Mart, Sears, and even Amazon.com offer kits ranging in cost from $10-$20. These kits are great because they come complete with everything you need, including pre-baked gingerbread pieces, assorted candy, icing mix, decorating bag (for icing), and instructions for house assembly. If you prefer to use homemade gingerbread, check out recipes online at www.gingerbreadlane.com. You can purchase everything from M&Ms and bell-shaped Reese’s to gumdrops and peppermint sticks to decorate the exterior. This activity can be a lot of fun for the whole family, so include your siblings and friends for hours of fun. Another great activity that can teach you a new skill as well as keep you warm is a knitting kit. “Learn to Knit” kits, such as the Lion Learn to Knit Kit ($14.99) available at http://www.joann. com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp? CATID=cat2044&PRODID=prd17726, are available at Joann’s and craft stores. This kit includes easy-to follow, step-by-step instructions and pictures so you know what the finished product should look like. The kit comes with two skeins of yarn, knitting needles, instruction booklet, and patterns for a hat and scarf. Your local knitting and sewing stores may also offer knitting lessons. So any time you are stuck in the house this winter and are looking for something to do, remember there are plenty of crafts out there that offer hours of entertainment. |
